Hello All,
I came across this little gem while shuffling through boxes of books at a comic con. Below is my Kirkus style review of the book So…I Survived the Zombie Apocalypse and All I got was this Podcast by Korey Hunt.
So…I Survived the Zombie Apocalypse
and All I got was this Podcast.
By Korey Hunt; Illustrated by Jerry Beck, et al.
A nice girl meets typical high school mean girls and their
cliques; however these mean girls have become zombies.
This is an unusual and funny story about the
zombie apocalypse. The story is a version of the stereotypical mean girls from high school picking on a
nerdy, perky, and sweet outsider. The catch is that the nerd girl, Mara, is
human and the zombies are the mean girls. After the zombie apocalypse Mara is
alone in the world until a snake bite makes her leave the safe surroundings of her
apartment. She ventures into the
dangerous zombie filled streets to get some medicine for her snake bite and
finds out that zombies only eat males. Since the zombie girls will not eat her
lonely Mara tries hard to become their friend.
In typical bully style the zombie girls tease and pick on her. It seems that even in the zombie apocalypse
poor Mara is not one of the cool people. In the end Mara learns the age old lesson that
she does not need the friendship of zombies who do not like her for who she is.
So, she does what is needed in the zombie apocalypse and goes on a zombie
killing spree. Like any graphic novel it is the story and the art work combined
that makes it worth reading. With various artists used in this short graphic novel
the art work changes drastically three times as the story progresses. At first
this bothered me, until I realized the art work changed as Mara was changing
from happy-go-lucky nerdy girl to screw it: time to take out the zombie
trash.
This is a refreshing mash-up of the zombie and mean girl
type of stories. It is a fun, but
forgettable ride that does not take itself too seriously.

This book sounds bizarre and intriguing, you used "I" and "me" a few times, but overall the tone was still professional. Full points.
